    The Resurrection

On the third day, the tomb is empty. Death is undone. The wounds of love now shine like stars on the risen Body of the Lord.

The angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

    Matthew 28:1–10

    The Ascension

Jesus ascends to the right hand of the Father, opening heaven for us and promising to return. Our true home is no longer earth.

When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. … “This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”

    Acts 1:6–11

The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost

Mary and the apostles wait in prayer. The Holy Spirit descends as fire — and the Church is born. Fear becomes courage, silence becomes preaching, weakness becomes witness.

Suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven

At the close of her earthly life, Mary is taken body and soul into the glory of heaven — the first fruits of her Son’s Resurrection, the great sign of our own hope.

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Cf. Revelation 12:1; tradition of the Church

The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth

The handmaid of the Lord is crowned Queen. She does not forget her children. She intercedes for us. She crushes the head of the serpent.

On her head a crown of twelve stars. … The dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring.

    Cf. Revelation 12:1
